Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), Deemed University (DU), contributes significantly in the sphere of Human Resources Development for the Defence Forces by way of imparting education and training on Defence Technology to the officers of Armed Forces, Scientists of the DRDO, Technical Officers of the Ordnance Factory Board, Directorate of Quality Assurance, Public Sector Undertakings, General Public and friendly foreign countries. The University conducts Ph.D, M.S. and M.Tech. Programmes and offers a number of short-term courses.
Ph.D. PROGRAMME
DIAT offers admission to PhD in the frontier areas of Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Applied Physics, Applied Mathematics and Materials engineering.
Eligibility Criteria : 55% marks or equivalent CGPA in M.E./M. Tech. for Ph.D. in Engineering:
Master of Science with 55% marks or equivalent CGPA for Ph.D. in Science.
GATE Score / UGC-CSIR NET certificate.
Master of Science with 55% marks or equivalent CGPA for Ph.D. in Science.
GATE Score / UGC-CSIR NET certificate.
Candidates who are in the final semester of their PG degree are eligible to apply; Mark sheet up to the last semester should be produced during interview. Provisional passing certificate and mark sheet of the final semester are required to be submitted before commencement of program.
Selection : Admission to Ph.D. will be based on the performance in the entrance exam (written test) conducted by the department concerned followed by personal interview.
Scholarship : Selected students will be eligible for scholarship as per MHRD guidelines

Eligibility Criteria : 55% marks or 5.5 CGPA in the qualifying examination as indicated against the disciplines concerned and valid GATE Score / UGC-CSIR NET Certificate. The candidates who are in the final semester of their degree are eligible to apply; Mark sheet up to the last semester should be enclosed. Provisional certificate in such cases along with Mark sheet of the final semester are required to be submitted before commencement of program.

Selected candidates will be provided accommodation and mess facilities on payment basis and it is mandatory that they stay in the Institute campus. The present monthly charge towards boarding and lodging is Rs.6000/-.

Candidates have to apply online. Application form can be downloaded from DIAT(DU) website www.diat.ac.in or www.diatonline.co.in. Application fee of Rs.200/- (100/- for SC/ST candidates) per programme is required to be paid by online to DIAT Power Jyoti Account No 32020073738 with SBI Girinagar Branch, Pune 411 025. The application has to be uploaded as per the instructions provided in the website, www.diatonline.co.in. No hard copy to be sent to DIAT. However, candidates have to bring a print out of the application submission confirmation along with proof of payment, at the time of test / interview.

Selected candidates for the PhD/ M.Tech programs are required to pay Semester Fee of Rs.5000/- per semester payable immediately on joining and a caution deposit (refundable at the end of the course minus dues if any) of Rs.10,000/-, payable in three monthly installments commencing from July 2012.

Organization Description : The Defence Institute of Advanced Technology, (DIAT) as it is known today, came into being as the Institute of Armament Studies in 1952 in the CME campus.
In 1967, the Institute was renamed as "Institute of Armament Technology, (IAT)", which moved to its present location at Girinagar, Pune. From the relatively narrow scope of Armament Studies alone in the Fifties, the role of the Institute was considerably enlarged by the Defence R&D Council in 1964 and further in 1981.
On the basis of accreditation by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), Pune University recognised eight courses for the award of ME degree in 1980. In the year 2000, the Institute acquired the status of a Deemed University. IAT has been renamed as DIAT w.e.f. 1st April 2006
