Rajasthan Public Service commission was established on 16th August 1949. R.P.S.C. is constituted under Article 315 of the Constitution to carry out the duties and functions delegated under Article 320 of the Constitution with the vision to execute the selection process for recruitment of eligible and proficient candidates to various civil services and various posts of the Rajasthan State, in an efficient and more transparent manner within the schedule in accordance with the rules laid by the Recruitment Board.
The State of Rajasthan was formed as a result of merger of the erstwhile, princely States situated in Rajputana and Part ’C’ State of Ajmer-Merwara. At the time of formation of Rajasthan, the institution of Public Service Commission existed only in three of the twenty two states, viz. Jaipur, Jodhpur and Bikaner. After the merger, an ordinance was passed on 16th August, 1949 to establish Rajasthan Public Service Commission for smooth administration of the state. It provided for the abolition of the other Institutions performing duties in the nature of those of a Public Service Commission in the constituent States. The Ordinance also provided for the composition of the Commission and the staff & functions of the Commission. The staff of the Rajasthan Public Service Commission, as it stood at the time of the establishment, continued as its nucleus. To regulate the working of the Commission, the Rajpramukh issued the following Regulations in 1951 under the provisions of the Constitution of India.
